‘Tis the season to be jolly!
Well… kind of.
The truth is that nobody feels 100% at all times, and we all have highs and lows. The upcoming holiday season doesn’t automatically make you happy, nor should you suppress your emotions just to fit in. It’s absolutely OK if you’re not in the mood for “fa la la la la-ing” this year. Whether you’re a bit stressed out or feeling sad, these tips can help you feel better:
Express Your Feelings
When you have a problem, you can’t just sweep it under the rug. Unfortunately, doing so really won’t do you any good. Think about how you’re feeling and find ways to express yourself. Sometimes crying is good for your mental health because it allows you to heal and move forward.
Set Realistic Expectations
We understand that a lot of people take a moment during the holiday season to reflect on their achievements and plan goals for the next year. Don’t be too harsh on yourself even if you feel like you haven’t accomplished much in the past 12 months. Setting realistic expectations is key to avoiding frustration in the near future. You know the saying: “Slow and steady wins the race”.
If you’re a very caring and giving person, that’s great! Just remember that we also have to find time for ourselves. If you’ve been feeling stressed out with Christmas shopping and family gatherings, it doesn’t hurt to forget about everything else but you, just for a day. Go to a spa, get a massage, or indulge in a fancy meal. Treat yourself right this holiday season!
